写本などで，葉が何枚か集められて折丁を成しているとき，2枚なら二重折丁（羅binio / duernio），3枚なら三重折丁（羅trinio），4枚なら四重折丁（羅quaternio），quinternio ...などという．一重折丁はunioである．ほとんどすべてが三重折丁で一部が四重折丁である場合は«Omnes terniones, praeter PP, qui quaternio est.»と書く．あるいは«Omnes sunt quaterniones, V vero duernus.»としたり，quaternioなどと同格にする．一覧を書く場合には«series c(h)artarum. / a b c d e f g h i k l m n o p q r s t v x y z. A B ... AA BB. omnes sunt quaterniones.»など．seriresの代わりにordoなど．series chartarumの代わりにregistrumなど．
